Paintings

I began painting as a child and continued until my early 20s, at which time I took up printmaking, then fibre artwork. During this period of 40 years I did the occasional painting in acrylics and gouache. It was not until 2007, after my father died, that I felt drawn to paint again. At that time, I returned to oil paints, my first love, to express some of my feelings about my father's life and death. And I've branched out from there.

I generally do not work in a linear fashion. While, from time to time, I set out to paint one or more images on a particular theme, I often experiment with different styles and unconscious themes that arise as I work. I do see recurring themes wending their way through my work--my interest in faces both human and other, images of land and abstract images focusing on colour and shape.
